"U is everything I see, U is a mirror."
Patrick Domo is an abstract realist painter living and working in Berlin. After studying in Germany and Korea, he developed a self-taught practice centered on large-format paintings on canvas — work that navigates the tension between figuration and abstraction, realism and emotion.
His major body of work begins with Icons, large-scale portrait paintings depicting figures of pop culture. With an abstract expressive style, the work captures the true core of a character through a combination of realism and abstraction — portraits on large canvases that represent the larger-than-life impact of their subjects.
The series Untitled moves away from classic portraiture, displaying pure emotion and breaking up surfaces while keeping the structure of figuration.
With U, the artist constructs a conceptual mirror, showing daily situations in large-scale contemporary oil paintings on the basis of a multi-angled thematic approach. Both the mirror for the viewer and society in general, and a more personal aspect including the artist's memories, emotions, and desires are represented in this series.
His most recent body of work, Nostalgia, reconstructs scenes suspended between memory and invention — poolside afternoons, stairwells, passing figures, charged with the warmth of something almost remembered.
Domo's paintings are held in private collections across Europe, Russia, Switzerland, and the United States.
